LED Strip Lights

LED Light Strips

There are many available brands of LED strips out there, but the main thing to note when buying LED strips is the voltages. They're both 12v LED strips and 24v LED strips.

Because you're new to setting up LED strip lights, it's recommended that you get a 12v LED strip. This is because, in 12v LED strips, they're shorter distances between cut-line intervals (1 inch for 12V vs. 2 inches for 24V).

But If you wish to get strips for maximum efficiency, the 24V DC is recommended because the chances for voltage drop here are minimal compared to 12v strips.

These are the LED lights that we recommend if this is your first time hanging LED lights.

Power Supplies Or Power Adapters

Because LED strips run on low voltage DC, they will need a  power supply device or adapter that converts 120V/240V AC, the appropriate voltage signal that LED strips can use.

LED Controllers

The LED controller is essentially a remote control for your lights; with this, you can power light strips on or off, change the color adjusting the brightness level, and switch color-changing modes.

LED Connectors

LED connectors will help you to connect two strips end-to-end to make it longer.

You're looking for if the lights are functional and the color, color temperature, etc. For the controller, if it's an RGB (RED, GREEN, & BLUE) system, ensure all the lights come on, and you're getting your desired effects.

Prepare LED Mounting Surfaces

Before you begin, make sure your surfaces are prepared such that mounting your strips will be fast and easy.

To ensure the strips adhere well to your surface, ensure that the surface is clean, smooth, dry, and stable, with examples being a wall, the floor, or even your ceiling.

Do not apply on rough or textured surfaces. Make sure to remove all dirt, oil, and other contaminants with a surface cleaning solvent like isopropyl alcohol( 70% alcohol and 30% water). And for oily surfaces, it's advisable to use acetone rather than alcohol.

Measure Your Surface Lengths

It is advisable that when planning the layout of strip light installation, total length measurement of light strips is required.

Also, make sure to measure the length for each leg of the installation. Always keep your measurements close by so you can use them when cutting the LED strips.

How To Cut LED Strip Lights

With a simple pair of scissors, you can easily cut strips by locating marked cuttable segments visible on LED strips. Most common LED strip lights can be cut every three or six LEDs.

Always make sure to cut precisely along the cutting line. Also, ensure you're leaving enough copper pads on each end of the LED strips as they will be your soldering base for soldering connection or as connection points for solderless LED connectors.

T connect LED light strips; you will need to use a connector clip. Push the open end of the copper end of the strip into the connector clip and close to lock it in.

How To Stick LED Strips To Surfaces

  • Firstly, unroll the desired length of LED strips you want to work with.
  • To securely attach an LED strip to your surface, Remove the adhesive backing and simply stick to the surface.
  • Press down on the LED strip to firmly adhere the strip to the surface, this way, you're minimizing the chances of getting air bubbles underneath the strip.

Once your LED strip lights are placed, you can now attach them to the power adapter and controller. Plug it into your electrical outlet and use the remote control. Please turn it on, and press any color on the remote control to change the lighting color. Always make sure to unplug the battery insulation sheet before use.
